Behind the scenes – Planning the IFW Conference

How does a Conference come together? Each year presents different challenges and triumphs.  Our goal throughout is to make your experience of the IFW Conference as enjoyable, inspiring and packed with practical insights as possible. It can be a bit of a balancing act to get all these pieces in place!

In the immediate aftermath of this year’s IFW Conference, we set about gathering and analysing as much feedback from IFW members, discovering what you did and didn’t attend, what you gained from attending, and what could have been better.

We began by listening to delegate viewpoints on future topics and speakers, and started researching a location, a theme and topics for next May’s event.

Finding the perfect location

A lot of IFW members mentioned how easy the Midlands was to reach, so we’re currently talking to a number of hotels and purpose-built conference venues in that area. The location needs to be accessible by road and rail, ideally with an airport relatively nearby.

We also have some specific requirements, namely breakout rooms, that make finding the right site slightly more complicated. As well as the main area with a stage for keynote talks, we like to get you up and moving to more interactive breakout sessions where you can ask questions, share your insights and find out more about the topics that interest you. It also means you have the chance to make each IFW Conference bespoke to you as you have two to choose from between each keynote. That ensures every IFW Conference delegate has an individual package, designed by them!

Although the area was rated highly this year, the hotel itself was less well regarded, and we are looking for something that ticks more boxes for 2025. This involves a lot of emails, phone calls and site visits, mainly by our Marketing Manager Elena.

We will, of course, do our best to find somewhere with a spa and golf course delegates can enjoy on the day before to give you the chance to boost your wellbeing!

Designing a programme to suit you

Your feedback shows us that you are keen to understand more about how to implement financial wellbeing tenets for practical, measurable impacts.

With this in mind, we have created the theme for the IFW Conference 2025:

Identify>Understand>Implement

How we want to work, live and connect, now and in the long-term.

This theme will guide the choices we make when filling the agenda for the IFW Conference.

Topics on our wishlist include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Workplace financial wellbeing
  • The power of positive financial psychology
  • How to incorporate financial wellbeing into existing processes
  • Retirement – the next adventure, or an old-fashioned idea?
  • Insights and case studies from practitioners of financial wellbeing
  • Tomorrow’s clients

Please feel free to let us know if any more suggestions come to mind.

We have also noted the individuals members are keen to hear from, and will start contacting potential keynotes and breakout sessions speakers as soon as we have the dates finalised and the venue booked.

We expect it to take place late May, most likely on 19th May for the evening social event and on 20th May for the full day of talks and breakout discussions.

Members have the exclusive opportunity to secure their spot by paying a fully refundable deposit of £97. Please email us to find out more on members@IFW.org.uk

The deposit is fully refundable up until 31st December 2024, so you have nothing to lose, and a lot to look forward too!
