Clémence is responsible for the integration of sustainability into the investment process at CCLA.

Having obtained a Bachelor’s in International Management (China) at SOAS, she discovered her passion for finance and sustainable business. After completing a Master’s in Finance & Investment at the University of Bristol she started her career in financial planning at Paradigm Norton where she developed her knowledge of sustainable investing, before moving into asset management.

In her free time you can find Clémence going all out in the CrossFit gym, horse riding and taking care of her Pharaoh Hound.

At the IFW Conference, Clémence will deliver:

Sustainability Bootcamp: Getting Real About Sustainability with Your Clients.

Your key learning points will be:

  • Hard truths your clients need to know now
  • How investments can drive positive change through influencing companies’ behaviour
  • How to uncover out what ‘good investment’ means to your clients

I managed to steal a few moments of Clémence’s time to find out more about how understanding sustainability can help our businesses and our clients, and why weightlifting boosts her own wellbeing.

We can’t wait for your Bootcamp at the IFW Conference. What are you looking forward to most about it?

I’m looking forward to reconnecting with people I know, meet new people and listening to wonderful speakers, as well as having fun of course!

What can delegates expect from your keynote talk?

Delegates can expect some real talk about sustainability. As a former financial planner myself, now working on the other side of the curtain in asset management, I can see both perspectives. I want to inform people about the realities of sustainability and with that call people to action not only in their professional but also personal capacity. We truly need all hands on deck!

How did sustainability within finance become the focus of your career?

I was taken to Gavin Francis’ Worthstone annual conference right at the beginning of my career, now better known as the Impact Investing Academy. I was inspired by some of the speakers of the day. I remember speaking to one of Paradigm Norton’s former directors saying: ‘surely we can do this too, there must be some demand for this’ and they just let me run with it. After 4 years, I decided that financial planning was a great career but not the right one for me. Through serendipity I found my current job at CCLA.

How would you summarise your passions, both in and out of work?

I love creating exciting memories and trying new things. Therefore, I love travelling, eating myself through Bristol’s ever evolving restaurant scene, taking care of my very active dog and exercising. At the moment I am very into Olympic weightlifting. There’s nothing better to build your confidence and feel good about yourself!

What’s your happiest memory?

There are many but the most recent one must have been when I got engaged.

What’s your understanding of financial wellbeing and why it matters?

Knowing that you have enough is not enough. Feeling that you have enough and are enough is true peace of mind.

What do you wish you’d been told about finance when you were 15?

That it would have been wise to open an investment account and save some cash every month!

Who or what is your favourite wellbeing guru, podcast or book?

At the moment it’s Dr Stacy Sims and other women in this space. She is an international exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist is revolutionising exercise, nutrition and performance for women. She is busting a lot of myth and explaining why generic and common diet and exercise recommendations don’t usually work for women simply because of our hormone cycle. Mainstream recommendations are based on studies undertaken exclusively on men, but women are not small men. It’s very empowering knowledge!

What are you doing to advance your own financial wellbeing?

Reminding myself that I am doing well.
